conventions of children's movies

When watching children's movies it is easy to see there are many conventions. Usually the producer will try to add some adult humor so that the adult going into the movie theater will not get bored. They also tend to have an underlying message in the movie to send to children; however, this point is usually missed because of the humor the children take away from the story. Another convention commonly used has to do with the clothing they place characters in. If there is a villain they will usually be wearing dark clothing and oppositely true a good character will be wearing bright colors and will be smiling the majority of the time. Many of these ideas are shown in the movie toy story 3. It is supposed to be a story about friendship and sticking together but most children just remember the funny comments that the barbies or rex make. The characters in this movie dress according to their actions. The bear missing an eye is of course the villain and those like woody in pristine condition and always trying to save the day is considered the hero. Also, in children's movies they drastically change the music when either a happy or terrifying moment is about to happen. This allows the audience to easily be able to figure out if the character is in danger or not.
